Tháng 10-2021 vừa qua, Gartner công bố bảng đánh giá Magic Quadrant (MQ) mới nhất của mình về các hãng sản xuất tủ đĩa Storage chuyên dụng. Theo đánh giá của giới công nghệ thì bảng xếp hạng này không có nhiều thay đổi vì năm 2021 Storage cũng chưa đưa ra định hướng gì mới so với năm 2020. Các bộ lưu trữ chuyên dụng vẫn tiếp tục phát triển và cải tiến những tính năng: Quản lý dựa trên nền tảng trí tuệ nhân tạo (AIOps); NVMe-OF; Giao diện quản trị trên Cloud hay xu hướng SDS (Software-Defined-Storage). Trong năm 2021 cũng chứng kiến sự dịch chuyển mô hình kinh doanh của các nhà sản xuất Storage lớn như HPE, Dell từ mua-đứt-bán-ngọn sang trả-dần-dần (subscription).

Nhìn trên bảng đánh giá các nhà cung cấp giải pháp, sản phẩm tủ đĩa Storage chuyên dụng từ năm 2020 sang năm 2021 ta thấy chỉ có một vài thay đổi nhỏ. HPE và Dell vẫn duy trì vị trí thứ 3 của mình theo từng tiêu chí khác nhau: Dell theo tiêu chí “Khả năng thực thi” còn HPE theo tiêu chí “Khả năng hiện thực hóa tầm nhìn”. Nhưng khoảng cách đã khá tách xa trên bảng đánh giá. Trong bẳng đánh giá mới ta cũng không còn thấy sự xuất hiện của Oracle một phần do họ không đáp ứng được tiêu chí “Cloud-Focus” của Gartner hay Fujitsu đã tụt hạng xuống phần tư cuối cùng do họ cũng vừa mới từ bỏ thị trường Bắc Mỹ.
Giới chuyên môn cũng đáng giá sự không xuất hiện của VAST Data trong bảng xếp hạng này là một sự đáng tiếc. Tuy vậy Gartner có giải thích họ chỉ đánh giá các hãng có doanh thu trên 50 triệu đô trong vòng 4 quý trước đấy và có 500 khách hàng ở phân khúc tầm trung và lớn.
