Dịch vụ FPT Object Storage tương thích S3 API (native S3) ra đời sau cú bắt tay giữa FPT Cloud, nhà cung cấp dịch vụ lưu trữ Cloudian.

FPT Object Storage tương thích S3 API (native S3) hoạt động trên nền tảng VMware. Dịch vụ cho phép các doanh nghiệp lưu trữ dữ liệu phi cấu trúc, mở rộng không gian lưu trữ lên đến 1 exabyte mà không bị gián đoạn.

Hệ thống FPT Object Storage được triển khai trên nhiều trung tâm dữ liệu (multi-site). Dịch vụ đảm bảo tính an toàn, hiệu năng, nâng cao độ sẵn sàng cho dữ liệu doanh nghiệp, với khả năng đồng thời đáp ứng cho mọi quy mô doanh nghiệp khác nhau.

FPT Object Storage có thể được quản lý, tích hợp dễ dàng từ FPT Cloud cũng như các S3 Client khác. Việc ra mắt dịch vụ lưu trữ thế hệ mới giúp FPT Cloud mở rộng khả năng trong việc cung cấp giải pháp tối ưu cho nhiều lĩnh vực như bảo mật dữ liệu, phân tích dữ liệu, y tế, đa phương tiện (media), giám sát hình ảnh (video surveillance). Trước tiên, chúng ta cần biết rằng Object storage là hình thức lưu trữ được tạo ra để phục vụ cho các Public Cloud.

Công nghệ phát triển với tốc độ chóng mặt khiến cho nhu cầu lưu trữ ngày càng tăng lên về mặt định lượng cũng như định tính. Trước đây, khi nói đến lưu trữ dữ liệu, người ta nghĩ ngay đến các tập tin văn bản, nhưng ngày nay lưu trữ đã mở rộng hơn rất nhiều, từ những tập tin âm thanh cho tới các video clip 4k, 8k, . . . chúng được gọi là các dữ liệu phi cấu trúc (unstructured data). Các hình thức lưu trữ dữ liệu cũ như File, Block storage bộc lộ điểm yếu của mình khi làm việc với loại dữ liệu mới này và Object storage ra đời để giải quyết những hạn chế đó. 

Object storage cho phép lưu trữ dữ liệu trên một mặt phẳng lưu trữ duy nhất, có thể mở rộng tới vô hạn, điều mà File và Block storage không thể làm được. Object storage cho phép tìm kiếm, quản lí và truy cập dữ liệu 1 cách nhanh chóng dựa vào cấu trúc 3 thành phần:

• Data: dữ liệu cần lưu trữ
• Metadata: hệ thống metadata được người dùng tạo ra, trong đó có thể là thông tin liên quan tới vị trí object được tạo, dự án liên quan tới object đó, chủ đề của object là gì, . . .
• ID: mỗi một Object được gắn với 1 ID duy nhất.

S3 API (S3 Application Programming Interface) được biết đến là cách thức dữ liệu được lưu trữ, quản lý và truy xuất thông qua Object storage. Đây là cách thức lưu trữ trên Cloud.

Ngày nay, hình thức lưu trữ Object storage được mở rộng tới On-Prem và Private Cloud bởi các đặc tính ưu việt của nó.

Thuật ngữ tương thích S3 API (Native S3) được hiểu là hệ thống object storage sử dụng S3 API làm ngôn ngữ của nó và khi đó, nó có thể làm việc cực kì hiệu quả với các ứng dụng được xây dựng dựa trên S3 API. Các ứng dụng được xây dựng dựa trên S3 API có số lượng rất lớn và chất lượng cao có thể kể đến như Rubrik, Veeam, Commvault, Splunk, Pure Storage, Adobe, VERITAS, Hadoop, NetApp, EMC, Komprise, . . .  Cloudian là công ty đi đầu trong việc tạo ra các sản phẩm native S3 và mức độ tương thích là cao nhất trên thế giới.
